We know the teen years are busy! Between school, sports, music, and social life, you need a way to get a beautiful, healthy smile without adding stress. Our goal is to make this part of life easy, effective, and actually pretty cool. We’re here for you and your family at every step of your smile journey!
The Best Time to Start Their Transformation
The teen years are the most common time for orthodontic treatment because most permanent teeth will be in place (typically starting between the ages of 12 and 16). Experienced orthodontists like Dr. Kaplan can easily detect issues with spacing, crowding, bite, and alignment in this age range. Plus, the bone and jaw structure are formed enough to allow orthodontic treatment to begin. Some teens may have even started Phase I treatment at an earlier age, and are now following it up with full treatment.
Options Designed for the Modern Teen
Today's treatment options are smaller, sleeker, and far more comfortable than ever before. We work with both parents and teens to create the kind of smile that will last a lifetime.
- Invisalign® Treatment for Teens: This system uses a series of fully customized, clear trays called Invisalign Clear Aligners that are nearly invisible and completely removable. It’s a comfortable orthodontic experience, with no friction or abrasions inside the mouth. When worn the recommended 20-22 hours per day, the teeth gradually move into the desired positions.
- Modern Metal Braces: Traditional metal braces hardly need an introduction, but they may surprise you! The braces of today are far smaller and lighter than their past incarnations. They’re comfortable, and they’re easily customized by choosing from many colors of elastic ties on the brackets.
Can They Still Play Sports or Music? Absolutely!
We want teens to keep doing the things they love!
- Sports: Absolutely! If your teen athlete is wearing traditional metal braces, it will be essential to protect their smile. We strongly recommend using an orthodontic mouthguard to protect their braces and their mouth from any potential injury. Because Invisalign clear aligners are removable, teens using this system can simply take their aligner out before practice or a game and put it back in afterward.
- Musicians: Traditional metal braces can potentially affect the way your teen plays some instruments. Invisalign treatment for teens is an excellent alternative, as removing the aligner before playing allows complete freedom for your teen’s music-making abilities.
Kaplan Orthodontics Reviews
Best orthodontist, hands down! Staff is amazing as well. We are very grateful for Dr Kaplan and all the hard work that he and his staff do. They are an amazing team!
We’re extremely satisfied with Dr. Kaplan and highly recommend his practice to anyone and everyone! 2 of my sons have been in his care (one already in treatment, one still being monitored until he grows a bit more before determining the necessary treatment). Dr. Kaplan and his staff are always very patient in explaining the treatment recommendations, and takes the time to answer our questions.
Dear Dr. Jason Kaplan, Leanne, and the entire Kaplan Orthodontics Team,A simple “thank you” does not seem nearly enough to express how grateful I am for the care you have given my daughter, Abigail.Abigail is 15 and already a very independent young lady, but watching her gain even more confidence because of her beautiful new smile has been incredibly meaningful to me as her mother. The transformation is so much more than straight teeth. It is seeing your child smile more freely, carry herself with greater confidence, and feel even better about who she is. As a parent who wants the very best for her children, it is difficult to put into words what that means.Dr. Jason Kaplan and Leanne, you are a remarkable team. What makes your practice so special is not simply your professionalism, talent, and expertise—although all of those are exceptional. It is the combination of excellence and genuine goodness. You are incredibly skilled at what you do, but you also truly care about the children and families who walk through your doors. That heart can be seen in all the little things. The toys, souvenirs, and rewards that celebrate accomplishments along the way may seem small, but they are not. They recognize that no matter how old or independent our children become, they are still our children. You understand how encouragement, recognition, and a little fun can motivate them to do the things that help achieve the best results. Those thoughtful details demonstrate that you have put your heart into your practice.Your entire team is exceptional, and the atmosphere you have created is warm, welcoming, and positive. Even my husband willingly volunteers to take Abigail to her appointments—and I suspect the phenomenal coffee he gets to enjoy in the lobby while waiting for our precious girl may have something to do with it!In our fast-paced world, where it is so easy to simply go through the motions, it is inspiring to encounter people like Dr. Jason and Leanne who do so much more than just run a successful practice. Through your talent, kindness, thoughtfulness, and the way you treat people every day, you are creating something that makes the world a little better.Thank you for taking such wonderful care of Abigail. Thank you for giving her a beautiful smile, but even more importantly, thank you for contributing to the confidence behind that smile. As a mother, I could not ask for more. With heartfelt gratitude and appreciation,Rasa TeytelA very grateful mom
Dr Kaplan and team care about quality work - 100% recommend
The staff and Dr. Kaplan are very friendly and honest. Dr. Kaplan wants to do braces once and the right way, so we will keep checking in and wait until our son is ready. Love this practice - so glad a friend recommended it. AND it’s not in the crazy business of Dunwoody Village!

What We’re Watching For
Untreated dental problems can have a lasting impact on a teen’s oral and overall health. If you notice any of the following issues, we recommend a complimentary consultation with Dr. Kaplan, since they could be signs your teen may benefit from orthodontic treatment:
- Early, late, or irregular loss of baby teeth.
- Difficulty with chewing or biting.
- Jaws that shift or make sounds.
- Frequent biting of the cheek or the inside of the mouth.
- Protrusion of teeth.
Investing in Their Future Confidence
Orthodontic treatment is an investment in your child’s future. Teeth that are straight and well-aligned are:
- Less prone to wear and tear, chipping, and tooth trauma.
- Easier to keep clean, helping to prevent tooth decay and cavities.
- Great for improving proper chewing and digestion of food.
Plus, a successful treatment can help boost their self-confidence and allow them to smile freely. Ready to find the right treatment path for your teen? Book your free in-office exam to get started!
